The girl-next-door vibe that Mun Ka-Young has, is a very recognizable personality in South Korea. Often called the Millennial Queen of rom-com, Mun Ka-Young or Moon Ga-young is praised for her natural acting and keeping the viewers entertained throughout her hit series. Her real-life bubbly personality does not stop her from embodying the complicated emotions of her characters or their personalities. The German-South Korean actress started out her career at an incredibly young age as a child actress. She made her television debut in 2006 by appearing in both film and television. She was nominated for the KBS Award for Best Young Actress in 2010 and 2013. In 2014, as a teenager, Moon Ga-young played her first lead role with the character Mimi, in a 4-episode rom-com cable network drama. Later in 2015 she even played supporting roles in dramas. From this point onwards, she started scoring a lot of lead roles and became known for her acting in Tempted, Find Me in Your Memory, and True Beauty.



Besides just acting in TV series, this actress has many hit films under her belt, consisting of different genres. Her lead role in Tempted majorly skyrocketed her career as her stellar acting of a complicated character was noticed and appreciated by many. She recently made a comeback with the show Link: Eat, Love, Kill,and has another drama called Understanding of Love in the works right now. 5 Welcome to Waikiki 2 (2019)

Directed by Lee Chang-Min, Welcome to Waikiki 2 is the second part of the hit comedy drama showing the lives, dreams, and friendships of young people. This internationally loved comedy drama stars Kim Sun-Ho, Lee Yi-Kyung, and Moon Ga-young. Moon Ga-young plays the character of Han Soo-Yeon, who now must navigate through her life after her wedding gets called off unexpectedly. This is by far considered to be Moon Ga-young’s most fun drama, with her fun and loving personality shining through the character of Soo-Yeon. The witty and fun script really suited Ga-young’s style, making this a memorable character for all viewers. Viewers especially cannot forget Soo-Yeon singing out of tune on many occasions which made them laugh until their stomachs hurt.


4 Tempted (2018)

This romance thriller is directed by Kang In and Lee Dong-Hyun and consists of the most star-studded cast ever. Starring Woo Do-Hwan, Joy, Moon Ga-young, and Kim Min-Jae, the show follows Kwon Shi-Hyun (Woo Do-Hwan) on a mission to seduce Eun Tae-Hee (Joy). However, things take another turn when they find themselves falling in love. Fans get to see Moon Ga-young as Choi Soo-Ji, a spoiled rich girl who is secretly in love with Kwon Shi-Hyun and wants everything to be her way. This was Moon Ga-young’s role as an antagonist, who turns good in the end as she was fighting her own wars. Moon Ga-young embodied the vicious personality of her character, which made fans even more immersed in the show. The role as Soo-Ji showed her complete potential for more lead roles in the future.

3 Find Me in Your Memory (2020)

This solemn and heartfelt love story is written by Kim Yoon-Joo. It follows the story of Lee Jung-Hoon (Kim Dong-Wook), an anchorperson who remembers every detail of his past, and Yeo Ha-Jin (Ga-young) an actress who has no memory of her past. This series offers a mature love story with excellent chemistry between the leads. Moon Ga-young excellently displays the struggles that might exist in love blooming between this odd couple. She also has a beautiful personality who seems effortlessly funny, living her life day by day to be as happy as possible. At moments, Ha-Jin’s expressions show her feelings so much that they completely engross the viewers.

2 True Beauty (2020)

Directed by Kang Sang-Hyub, this rom-com series was based on a webtoon of the same name. It follows the story of Im Ju-Kyung (Moon Ga-young), who undergoes a full transition through makeup in high school after being bullied her whole life for her look. Moon Ga-young stars alongside Cha Eun-Woo and Hwang In-Yeop in this hilarious rom-com. For fans, this was Moon Ga-young’s most memorable role to date. Her charm and confidence shine through on the screen, making everyone fall in love with her. She also effortlessly pulls off her two personalities in the show: one being the famous and most beautiful girl in school and the other as a horror comic, rock music-loving edgy girl. Viewers also get to see Moon Ga-young embody the life of a schoolgirl. She also delivers an important message through her character of embracing self-love, and that inner beauty is what matters the most instead of outer beauty.

This can be said as Moon Ga-young’s best performance ever in an extremely unconventional drama. She plays the extremely complicated character of No Da-Hyun, who goes through a lot of troubles in her life. She has experienced child kidnapping, being a victim of stalking, and a murder, but still shows the resilience to power through everything. Her acting of emotions is so spot on the viewers cannot help but feel for her. With an exceptional performance this year, fans are eagerly awaiting her new drama Understanding of Love, to see their favorite actress on screen again.
