Cobra Kai star Dallas Dupree Young says he wants his character, Kenny, to fight Miguel. As one of the relatively new additions to the popular Karate Kid spinoff, Young made his debut in Cobra Kai season 4 as Kenny Payne. The character is introduced as the victim of intense bullying by Anthony LaRusso (Griffin Santopietro) and his group. But, after being influenced by the teachings of the Cobra Kai dojo, Kenny learns to stand up for himself. By the end of the season, viewers are left to wonder if Kenny has become a bully himself.

It seems natural that Cobra Kai season 5 will continue to explore Kenny’s evolution. The young fighter seems helplessly overwhelmed by Anthony’s bullying. But as he learns how to fight back, perhaps learning from the wrong mentors, such as John Kreese (Martin Kove), he begins to enjoy the rush of power a little too much and arguably favors cruelty even when Anthony tries to apologize. But, as Young tells it, Kenny might be looking to pick an even bigger fight.

In an interview with Screen Rant to promote Cobra Kai season 5, which premieres September 9 on Netflix, Young reveals he’d like to do battle with Xolo Maridueña’s Miguel Diaz. The actor says it would be really cool, essentially pointing to the fact that Miguel is essentially the lead Karate Kid of the spinoff and that it would lead to a different kind of fight. Check out Young’s quote below:

I would love to have a battle against Miguel. I think that’d be really cool; something different. And he is pretty much like the Karate Kid of the story, so I think just to have a battle with him would be awesome

Though he’s only been on the show for a relatively short time, Young has already shared scenes and formed connections with some Cobra Kai mainstays. In addition to his feud with Anthony and learning from Kreese, he formed something of a friendship with Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan). That bond grows complicated, as Kenny begins to listen to his more ruthless impulses, but it provides the relative newcomer with several ways of linking up with the main story. So far, that hasn’t included Miguel.

In the Cobra Kai season 4 finale, fans will recall that Miguel hardly seems invested in any dojo wars. Particularly after a scary injury setback, the teenager becomes more invested in meeting his biological father. But perhaps, as it progresses and plants the seeds for a potential season 6, a fight between Miguel and Kenny won’t seem too unlikely. If anything, it could come across as a way to sort of pass the torch within an ever-expanding cast.
