Domhnall Gleeson Would Love to Return to Star Wars as General Hux

Is a General Hux spinoff the Star Wars project fans have been waiting for? Maybe not, but Domhnall Gleeson would love to return to the franchise all the same. His character appeared in all three films of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, playing a First Order General in The Force Awakens. However, he drastically changes by the final film, The Rise of Skywalker, as his character shifts to an undercover spy for the Resistance. Although audiences assume he meets his demise, his death is off-screen leaving room for endless possibilities surrounding General Hux.

During an interview with TheWrap, Gleeson expressed his love for his character and said he would certainly return and reprise his role if asked. He says, “He was really interesting, and I think there’s a lot I could do more [with him].”

“Of course I would! He was really interesting, and I think there’s a lot I could do more [with him]. I don’t see them making the call. I’m not sure anybody’s clamoring for a Hux sequel or prequel. But yeah, of course. Those movies are amazing.”

The idea isn’t entirely out of the ballpark, as a series featuring the First Order or Empire at the height of their power could be interesting, especially in the case of General Hux. He must have been working with the Resistance in some form, leading to a lot of shifty work behind the scenes of the evil antagonist operation in Star Wars. Additionally, if the series were a prequel, the idea of bringing Adam Driver back as Kylo Ren would certainly excite fans. However, don’t expect Disney+ to announce their new General Hux series anytime soon.

Will We See Any Characters From the Sequel Trilogy Again?

Gleeson’s admiration for Star Wars isn’t too common amongst the sequel trilogy cast. Initially, Oscar Isaac said he wouldn’t be interested in returning to the franchise; however, he’s since changed his mind saying he would come back with the right story and director. Unfortunately, fellow co-star, John Boyega, didn’t share the same mindset. Following his role as Finn in all three films, the actor now says, “I’m good off it,” when asked about reprising his role.

Given the divisive nature of the sequels, Disney may choose to steer clear of the time period for a while. The upcoming series, Andor, is set before the events of A New Hope and Rogue One, and shows such as Ahsoka will also be far before the sequels. Unfortunately, sequel fans may not see any character from the films in another project. If you want to see more of Domhnall Gleeson, he’s starring alongside Steve Carell in the FX psychological thriller, The Patient, which saw its first two episodes debut on Aug. 30. The series releases weekly every Tuesday.
