Kourtney Kardashian angered fans with her Boohoo collaboration, but The Kardashians star has now responded to the backlash. In honor of New York Fashion Week, Kourtney launched a fashion line with the popular fast fashion brand Boohoo. While many of the Kar-Jenners’ favorite brands are inaccessible to the average person, like Kim Kardashian’s $3,550 Balenciaga gown, the Boohoo collection is very affordable, with the cheapest item at $6 and the most expensive at $100. Kourtney also focused on sustainability when creating the line and recently held a fashion show with the brand for NYFW, which was attended by stars like The Real Housewives of New Jersey‘s Teresa Giudice.
Unfortunately, the line didn’t get the positive reaction Kourtney was hoping for. The Kardashians star claims to be an environmentalist, but fans have found many flaws in her activism, feeling her collaboration with Boohoo was the most obvious evidence that her environmentalist efforts are hypocritical. Fast fashion brands are known for being horrible for the environment since factories are overproducing garments. The company also isn’t sustainable because it cann’t fairly pay its workers when the clothing is being sold for such low prices. It’s great to produce affordable clothing but not at the expense of the environment and workers, according to many fans, who pointed this out in the Boohoo Instagram comments section.
However, Kourtney is not sitting back and letting her fashion line be ripped apart and instead has responded to the backlash. Kourtney took to Instagram to explain why she made the decision to collaborate with Boohoo, despite some of the criticism the brand gets. The reality TV star explained that she debated whether she should do the collaboration because she knew how bad fast fashion is for the environment. However, she felt maybe she could bring awareness to the fashion industry’s impact on the environment for consumers who aren’t aware. “I thought about how pushing Boohoo to make some initial changes and then holding them accountable to larger change would be impactful,” Kourtney wrote.
The Kardashians star added that the chatter around the line is doing exactly what she hoped it would, bringing attention to how important it is to take care of the environment. Poosh founder Kourtney explained that she did a fast fashion collaboration in the past but because she wasn’t bringing attention to sustainability, it didn’t get backlash like her Boohoo collaboration did. Kourtney then invited her critics to reach out to her to better help her understand the fast fashion industry and help her make improvements. The mother of three added, “I will be elaborating on their changes, how we’ve made this line more sustainable, and what I’ve learned we as consumers can do to help…all to come!!“
It seems Kourtney is pretty serious about making the Earth a better place and keeping her as healthy as possible. The reality star is not perfect, which she admitted in her post, but she is doing the best she can, as a lot of people are. Kourtney was even seen taking a commercial flight in August after her younger sister Kylie Jenner received backlash for having two private jets, one for herself and the other for her partner, Travis Scott. While she has a lot to learn, it seems like Kourtney is up for an educational experience.
The Kardashians season 2 premieres September 22 on Hulu.
