A mod for Marvel’s Spider-Man remastered replicates The Amazing Spider-Man reboot’s first-person sequences, showing how wild web-swinging really is.

A new mod for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered replicates the first-person swinging of The Amazing Spider-Man reboot, allowing players to experience just how dizzying Peter Parker’s life must be. The PC release of the originally PlayStation-exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man has opened up the floodgates in terms of modded content, with new suits a key focus. Creative modders have also introduced new playable character models, potentially foreshadowing how playable Venom could work in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is slated to release in 2023.

Web-slinging has been a staple of Spider-Man games, with different titles putting their own spin on the mechanic. Treyarch’s Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in was the first open-world Spidey title, and redefined how web-swinging worked by introducing a physics system where every web had to attach to a piece of New York’s scenery. Most Spider-Man games since have followed that game’s example, although there have been some variations. Beenox’s 2012 Amazing Spider-Man game, for instance, pulled the camera in closer to Peter Parker while he was swinging, while Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man integrated freerunning aspects into the wall-crawler’s movement.

One of the more unique PC mods released for Marvel’s Spider-Man has reinvented the game’s web-swinging, switching the camera from a third-person perspective to first-person. The camera follows Spider-Man’s eye movements – even the subtle turns of his head during idle animations – as he navigates the city. Players can now witness what it would look like to web-swing through New York, and the results are arguably more disorienting than some may have imagined. Twitter user KhamarSinclair shared a clip using the mod, which was created by developer jedijosh920. In the clip, fans can see just how quickly Spider-Man has to move, along with how often he needs to dodge buildings, traffic, and trees. In-game, it’s simple enough to do. However, the change of perspective gives the web-swinging of Marvel’s Spider-Man a much more dramatic and even terrifying feel than ever before.

Marvel’s Spider-Man First-Person Mod Completely Changes Web-Slinging

This mod also gives the viewer a chance to appreciate the game’s attention to detail that normally they wouldn’t be able to get a close-up view of, such as the realistic detailing on the bricks, or the material on Spider-Man’s suit which can be seen on his hands while climbing or shooting webs. Switching to a first-person view in a normally third-person game is a type of mod that has been previously done in other games, but this usually leads to interesting results. For example, there is a first-person mod for Stray that lets players see through the cat’s eyes. However, there is a striking difference between being a cat jumping between ledges to being Spider-Man jumping off Avengers Tower.

The whole experience of this new Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered mod is rollercoaster-like. It’s fast, thrilling, and even a bit scary. But whether players find it exciting or terrifying, the first-person view should give a new appreciation for Spider-Man and how he saves the day. Facing against Kingpin or Doctor Octopus mustn’t seem so bad to Peter Parker after swinging from a 200-foot drop and then dodging New York traffic.
