The Crow Reboot Casts Danny Huston in Mystery Role

Another cast member has just been announced for the upcoming reboot of The Crow. Previously, it had been reported that Bill Skarsgård would be leading the new film as Eric Draven alongside FKA Twigs as his fiancée. The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that Yellowstone actor Danny Huston, whose recent film credits include Wonder Woman, The Professor, and Angel Has Fallen, has also boarded the Crow reboot. Details on Huston’s character have not been revealed.

This new take on The Crow was written by Zach Baylin and will be directed by Rupert Sanders. Molly Hassell, Victor Hadida, and John Jencks are producing the film alongside Edward R. Pressman, producer of the original feature film. The story, which had spawned a series of movies in years past, is inspired by the original comic book by James O’Barr. It follows a man who’s resurrected by a crow after he and his fiancée are viciously murdered, now enacting vengeance on those responsible for the horrific killings. As Skarsgård is playing Eric Draven, it can be presumed that the new film will have a similar plot.

The Crow is beautiful, dark, poetic and sometimes disturbing,” Sanders previously said in a statement when boarding the project. “It is a story of love, loss, grief, and revenge. It is a great honor to revisit James O’Barr’s iconic comic and reimagine The Crow as a foreboding voice of today.”

There have been many attempts to get a remake of The Crow made in more recent years. At one point, the reboot nearly happened with Corin Hardy directing and Jason Momoa starring in the lead role. That project wound up fizzling out before production could ever get started, leading to speculation that the film series would never get rebooted. That has changed at this point with this new team working on the movie as the reboot is said to be deep into production in the Czech Republic at this time.

The first movie based on The Crow was written by David J. Schow and John Shirley and was directed by Alex Proyas. Starring Brandon Lee in the lead role, the film was met with tragedy during production when the actor was killed due to a faulty prop gun on the set. As he had completed most of his scenes, the decision was made to release the movie in honor of Lee’s legacy. Many fans of the original film have been critical of a new movie getting developed, feeling that Lee’s performance could not possibly be matched.

Given the success of The Crow, there had been several sequels made with different actors. This includes 1996’s The Crow: City of Angels, 2000’s The Crow: Salvation, and 2005’s The Crow: Wicked Prayer. There had also been a Canadian TV series in 1998 dubbed The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. The original film is probably the most highly-regarded by fans when it comes to the franchise, and it remains to be seen how the reboot will fare with the other installments of the series.
