What The Santa Clause Cast Look Like Now

ytsfreeSeptember 7, 2022

While The Santa Clause is a Christmas classic with a Disney+ reboot on the way soon, not every The Santa Clause cast member has stayed working on big-screen projects. Since Christmas movies tend to feature child actors in major roles, a lot of their stars no longer work in Hollywood. However, the 3-part Santa Clause movie franchise is notable for bringing back many of its stars for later sequels.

Recently, Disney+ announced that Tim Allen would return to the role of Charlie Calvin/Santa in a limited series for the streaming service. It is not yet clear how many of the original movie’s other cast members will be back, although a look at their careers post-Santa-Clause careers might offer some insight. Some stars of the original The Santa Clause are no longer working in acting, while others have been steadily appearing on the big and small screen since the movie’s release.

The Santa Clause was a hit upon its 1994 release. The family comedy spawned two sequels, The Santa Clause 2 and The Escape Clause. While David Krumholtz didn’t return for The Escape Clause, most of the Santa Clause franchise’s stars cropped up in each movie. Whether the upcoming Disney+ series will be able to reunite them again is another story, but here’s what every The Santa Clause cast member is up to now.

Eric Lloyd

While Eric Lloyd’s adorable Charlie Calvin was the heart of The Santa Clause cast, this performer was not as enamored with acting as he was with the behind-the-scenes business of making movies. After a successful career as a child actor, Lloyd went on to open a production company and now works on music videos and movies. He has not acted since his role in the 90s sitcom Jesse.

Tim Allen

While The Santa Clause made Tim Allen a mainstay in family comedies, it was far from his only hit in the genre. Allen went on to play Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies as well as appearing in everything from Christmas With the Kranks to Jungle 2 Jungle. The underrated, unfortunately-timed flop Big Trouble set his career back a little, but Allen soon rebounded by starring in the long-running sitcom Last Man Standing. He will soon be seen on Disney+ reprising the title role of Santa Claus.

Peter Boyle

The great Peter Boyle was a screen veteran well before he played Allen’s crotchety boss in The Santa Clause, having played the title role in Mel Brooks’ cult classic Young Frankenstein. After The Santa Clause’s success, Boyle enjoyed a career revival, gaining acclaim for his supporting role in the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. After appearing in all 3 Santa Clause movies (albeit in two different roles), Boyle passed away in 2006.

Judge Reinhold

The Santa Clause wasn’t the first Christmas classic that cast Judge Reinhold, with the actor playing a similarly small supporting part in Gremlins. Reinhold continued to excel in comedic roles in the decades since The Santa Clause’s release, cropping up in everything from Arrested Development to the Beethoven movies. Most recently, he appeared in 2017’s Lifetime holiday romance, Four Christmases and a Wedding.

David Krumholtz

While David Krumholtz’s Bernard was missing from a later Santa Clause sequel, this was not due to the actor abandoning the industry. On the contrary, Krumholz is a prolific star of the big and small screen with roles in The Plot Against America, The Deuce, and Numb3rs. In terms of movies, Krumholtz boasts acclaimed indies like The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and A Futile and Stupid Gesture among his roles, meaning the original Santa Clause was far from his only successful supporting part.

Wendy Crewson

Wendy Crewson was already an established Canadian television actor when she gained the role of Laura Calvin Miller in The Santa Clause. However, the part led her to Hollywood fame and Crewson went on to appear in everything from Air Force One to What Lies Beneath. In recent years, she has been a series regular on Good Sam as well as appearing in an episode of Superman and Lois.
